About research at the SCI

Presentation by Nathalie Crutzen, Founder and Academic Director of the Smart City Institute (in French).

Scientific publications & applied projects

The Smart City Institute's expertise is centred on two complementary areas: on the one hand, it conducts fundamental research  (via scientific publications or research reports), and on the other hand, more applied missions (leading to the publication of practical guides, barometers, methodological notes  or the organisation of training or awareness-raising activities  for local stakeholders).

Complementarity

These 2 fields are in fact complementary since all the results from fundamental research provide inputs for applied research, by highlighting themes and trends that interest territorial actors (territories, companies, associations, etc.) in a concrete manner.

Due to this expertise, the Smart City Institute was designated the official academic reference on "Smart Regions" for the Walloon Region in 2016, through its Digital Wallonia program.
